Campus life moves fast, with classes, deadlines, housing, relationships, and a future that felt mapped out just weeks ago. Then a pregnancy test changes everything in a single moment. If you are a college student facing an unexpected pregnancy, it is normal to feel like the ground has shifted beneath you. What do you do next? Where do you even start?
Clara Women’s Center offers no-cost, confidential services for women navigating exactly this moment. You do not have to figure this out on your own.
Make an appointment today and take the first step forward with support.
First Step: Confirm Your Pregnancy
Before making any decisions, get the full picture. A positive at-home pregnancy test is a starting point, but it does not tell you the gestational age, viability, or the location of the pregnancy, as an ultrasound can.
Clara Women’s Center provides no-cost pregnancy testing, and clients who test positive may qualify for a limited ultrasound to gather key details. Knowing the specifics of your pregnancy is the foundation for understanding your options.
Your Academic Future Is Protected Under Title IX
Here is something many college students do not know: Title IX is a federal law that protects your right to stay enrolled and continue your education during and after pregnancy. Title IX also prohibits colleges and universities from discriminating against pregnant and parenting students.
What this looks like in practice: pregnancy alone is not grounds for removing you from a course, a program, or any activity you were participating in before. If you need time away for appointments or recovery, you can request accommodations through your school, and those requests cannot be used against you academically.
If you have concerns about how pregnancy might affect your financial aid, housing, or enrollment status, the next step is to connect with your campus Title IX coordinator.
Exploring Your Options as a College Student
An unexpected pregnancy looks different for everyone, and that is especially true when you are in the middle of a semester, living on campus, and figuring out what comes next. Taking time to learn about your options in a supportive, no-pressure environment can make a big difference in how you move forward.
Parenting
Balancing school and parenting is not easy, but it is more possible than many students think, particularly when the right support is in place early.
During your visit, our staff can connect you with parenting resources, community programs, and practical guidance to help you think realistically about what this path could look like for your life and your education.
Adoption
Adoption gives you the ability to continue pursuing your academic goals while making a thoughtful plan for your child’s future. There are different types of adoption arrangements, and you have a say in the process.
Our staff can walk you through what adoption generally involves and point you toward reputable agencies if this is a direction you want to learn more about.
Finding Support When You Are Far from Home
Support can come from a friend, a campus counseling center, a trusted advisor or RA, or a community resource like Clara Women’s Center. Reaching out is not a sign of weakness. It is a practical step toward getting the information and support you need to move forward.
Whether you are just processing the news or already thinking through your options, Clara Women’s Center is here for you.
Schedule a no-cost, confidential appointment and give yourself the space to get the information you need.
